Meet Mike Gregory and Ravel Lutz. I met them for the first time last night! They are an outgoing and energetic couple who are open, warm, kind and funny. I first heard of Ravel when she wrote a message on the blog’s Facebook wall saying that she lived in Cheverly for 37 years and that it “keeps getting better and better”. I emailed her to see if she would let me interview her for a Meet Your Neighbor post and she agreed. Regretfully I only had a few minutes to spend at their house while someone was watching my oldest boy- but they were warm and inviting and gave me the grand tour of their home. Ravel first moved to this same house 37 years ago in the 1970’s with her former husband. She married Mike 22 years ago and they have chose to retire in Cheverly. I love it.
I asked them what they like to do around town and they spoke about the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. I have yet to go but I hope to get there soon- it’s only 2 miles away. Here is what Ravel had to say about Cheverly:
I was the only woman on my block who worked. One other woman worked part-time. It was one of the close-in communities where you could buy a nice house on one income. There were *lots* of families with small children. Gradually, the children grew up, became teenagers, struck out on their own, and some moved back. When Mike and I got married in 1992, there were tons of yard sales of families a generation older than us who were moving out of Cheverly to be “near family” or “to be farther away from the city”. Their loss. Now we’re seeing lots of families with small children again. I stayed because it was a great place to live – integrated community, a sense of community, great house, great neighbors, great commute (Orange line to my office downtown). Living 4 doors away from the Town Center is great for Cheverly Day and Community Market. Over the years, the community has gotten even better with the Community Market and the Exchange.
So glad to meet you, Mike and Ravel. I’m glad you made the decision to retire here…
