Meet Megan! Megan has been a friend of mine in the Senate for a number of years and she is as much fun as she looks in this picture! I wanted to highlight Megan for a “Meet Your Neighbor” post because she is a single lady living in town and knows almost everyone. She knows her neighbors because she volunteers for community groups and that is what I wanted her to share about in this post. If you are new to Cheverly and want to get to know others, check out this post and choose a group that is of interest to you. Our community flourishes because of volunteers and friendships that stem from these groups. Megan is a great example of this!
When did you move to Cheverly?
I moved to Cheverly in the spring of 2003. Cheverly is the prettiest place in the spring and when I drove into the neighborhood for the first time, I decided that I would not have to look at any other neighborhood.
What do you like most about Cheverly?
The people. Cheverly is full of kind people, who know their neighbors and watch out for one another. Our diverse community is one of the most accepting places I have ever lived. It is so wonderful to watch the community come together to celebrate. Not many neighborhoods have at least one event a month that brings everyone together. Thanks to the efforts of our neighbors, we do.
I know you are involved with a ton of town organizations. Can you name some and then tell me how someone who is new can meet their Cheverly neighbors? How did you meet people in town?
I found the easiest way to meet people was to get involved. I am involved in these organizations; Cheverly Day, Cheverly Community Market, Cheverly Turkey Trot, Vine Corps, St. Ambrose Religious Education, and American Legion Auxiliary.
These organizations are the right ones for me, but there are so many others in town. I have made so many wonderful friends because of this volunteer work. Every organization would welcome more volunteers. Bring your talents and your time, you will be amazed how much you get back when you are willing to give.
A list of some of town organizations can be found on the Cheverly Website. The newsletter is another resource to see what each organization has going on for the month.
What is your favorite go to spot nearby? For shopping, eating, whatever…
This may be a shameless plug. Every month I look forward to the Ladies’ Happy Hour at the American Legion Dugout. On the 3rd Friday of each month the women of Cheverly meet in the dugout for happy hour at 7:30. This is a great way to meet other women and catch up with those you have not seen in a while.
One of my favorite local places in 3 Brothers in Bladensburg. They have the best pizza and Italian market with fresh breads and a deli counter.
