Not the clearest picture, I know- but it might just be one of the cutest. Check out some of our youngest Cheverly residents looking at the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last night. Tis the season for Christmas tree lighting ceremonies! Did you know that Cheverly has one of our own? It’s quite the large Charlie Brown Christmas tree located across from the Methodist Church in Legion Park.
If you check out the new December newsletter that was left in your mailbox, you will see a message from the Mayor about the event:
Come to the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and Stay for the Yule Log: Now that you’ve partici-pated in the Turkey Trot, it’s time to celebrate another great Holiday tradition. Come to the Town Tree Lighting Festival. On December 5th, local choirs and bands will perform holiday classics in Town Hall and cookies and cider will be served to all who attend.
Immediately following, the Girl Scouts will lead us in Holiday Carols in Legion Park prior to the lighting of the Town Tree. This is a wonderful event and we’d like to have everyone come out.
Come on Mike, “you know this is just for the children”. Absolutely not, this year marks the fourth year where we will follow the tree lighting with the lighting of the Yule Log. What better place to come and meet your friends and neighbors and enjoy some holiday cheer.
As a special treat the Public Works Department is planning to use Swedish Fire Logs as a replacement for the fire pits.
Drop by the Community Center (where the community market is) at 6:30pm on Friday night to see the choirs and bands perform. (for what it’s worth, I love this part because the children performing are so excited) Afterwards, follow the girl scouts to the tree lighting at 7:45 at Legion Park. Hope you can make it!
