Friends, if you don’t have plans this Friday night, you should be at this local event. Only $20 per person and you can get dressed up and support a great cause. Natalie Pappas told me the interesting background of the Sweetheart Charity Ball and I wanted to make sure you all heard it too. I don’t know the founder of this event, Joani Horchler, but I know she is very involved in Cheverly activities and has raised five daughters right here in town. Please think about buying some tickets and attending. If you don’t know anyone going, don’t worry. Cheverly has some of the kindest people around and you will meet them at this event.
From Natalie: The Ball was the idea of Cheverly resident Joani Horchler, who is very involved with the Cheverly community and has been an incredible inspiration to me and the reason I have been involved in the Sweetheart Charity Ball since its inception three years ago. Joani is an active member of St. Ambrose Ladies of Charity, the Cheverly Woman’s Club, Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, and also co-founded and ran the Cheverly Young Actors’ Guild for 17 years, in addition to co-founding and managing a non-profit, SIDS Educational Services, which she created after she lost a son to SIDS. Outside of Cheverly, she volunteers with FAIR Girls, Therapy Dogs Inc., and the Progressive Equestrian Therapy Services program. There are so many people who benefit from Joani’s selfless and compassionate volunteer work.
The Sweetheart Charity Ball is sponsored by the St. Ambrose Ladies of Charity and raises money for FAIR Girls, which helps survivors of human trafficking (http://www.fairgirls.org/), and the Catholic Charities’ Immigration Legal Services and Refugee Center, which provides case management and employment service support to refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking (http://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/immigrants-and-refugees)
The event will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 from 7pm – midnight in Fannon Hall, St. Ambrose Church, and consists of a potluck dinner, cash bar, jewelry sales by the FAIR Girls JewelGirls, a 50/50 raffle, and fantastic live music provided by Cheverly’s own Dino Efantis and friends!
Tickets are $20/person or $200/table and are on sale now! (Although there is no price difference when purchasing a whole table, only full tables have reserved seating.)
85% of the ticket price is tax-deductible, and of course 100% of donations are tax deductible. Tickets can be purchased by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
