We have something to celebrate today! The Cheverly Community Market is in two days. I’ve been waiting all winter for the market to come back. I just can’t say enough good things. Who really wants to drive around DC all weekend long? I would much rather stay in Cheverly on a Saturday morning and walk my kids to the market to see all their offerings.
Did you know that the Market is run by volunteers? And that it’s just another GREAT community activity that was a dream of a few local residents. Crystal Lal founded our market. From what I’ve heard, Crystal contacted a few of her friends and neighbors, had a dinner party and asked if anyone would be interested in having sustainable food in Cheverly. Crystal volunteered to do communications and sent out a press release to the Washington Post. The rest is history—and haven’t we all been blessed through her work?!
To keep our mostly all volunteer market running we have a Market Board consisting of 10 people- including a Board President. There is a Market manager and a Onsite Manager which receive a small stipend. Board members are at the market most days and are always looking for volunteers to help with set up and tear down. If you are looking for a place to serve or are looking to make new friends in town, reach out to the Market Board. And if you don’t have time, make time to come support our local venders. My favorite thing to do is to walk my boys to the Market, grab a coffee, sit down and listen to the music and see my friends.
