Last night was a very exciting evening for me. Even though I felt like a fish out of water at the Cheverly Planning Board meeting, the members were patient and kind and maybe even happy that someone new was there?! It’s only taken me 10 years of living in this town to get to a town meeting. For all of you who are new to town, don’t wait as long as I did. Find a board or organization in Cheverly where you can serve and get involved.
Speaking of being involved, I have a HUGE favor to ask of you. Do you want to see the surrounding areas of our town change for the good? Do you have some ideas of how that can happen? Would you like to see changes near the Metro? Or what about more restaurants on 202 or on Tuxedo Road? What about the property at the hospital? The Prince George’s Planning Department would really like to hear from you. All of the information you need to catch up on what I’m talking about can be found here. Last night at the planning meeting I learned that the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Planning Department, Community Planning Division are putting together a “Greater Cheverly Sector Plan”. Part of this plan is to enlist public participation. Not only will they have community meetings, they will have a website going at the end of this week with an interactive map where you can click areas to suggest change. This is your chance to make a difference in Cheverly and the surrounding area–especially for those of you who ride the Cheverly Metro.
We really need to get a huge turnout to a community meeting on Oct 28th at 7pm at Bladensburg High School (in the cafeteria) to voice our thoughts/opinions on this Cheverly Sector Plan project. We need lobbyists for our town. Will you consider joining me and many others at this meeting? Now is your opportunity to make a difference. Isn’t this great news for a Wednesday?!
