One of the many things I like our community is the fact that we do give back! There are so many giving people who live in Cheverly. During the holiday season, are you looking for opportunities to give back? If so, consider the following:
- The Silent Auction (see picture above) benefiting our local church, Cheverly United Methodist Church. More info below.
- Have a Safeway bag in front of your house? Wondering why it’s there? The Cheverly Boy and Cub Scouts are taking part in “Scouting for Food”. They will be back on Saturday to pick up the food at 10am. Food will then be given to the families in need at our local elementary school and at St. Ambrose for their program to help the poor.
- How about helping to feed families in need on Thanksgiving from our local elementary school? The Cheverly Parent Group is looking to help provide the fresh food for 25 families at $15 per family. You can donate via this link: http://www.cheverlyparent.org/2015-turkey-drive/
I will be at the Auction on Nov 21st. Last year it was an amazing time being able to meet many new faces that live in Cheverly. This is a great opportunity for those of you who are new to our neighborhood. Come on out and meet some people who have lived here for many years! Here is a message about the event: The Auction will be held on Saturday November 21 at 6pm. Ticket price is $40.00 and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. There will be a cash bar from 6-9. The food is being provided by R&R Catering. The Auction is being held at the Cheverly American Legion Post 108. Cheverly United Methodist Church, located at the heart of Cheverly, Maryland, has a well-deserved reputation as a de-facto community center and community institution. The church has a significant presence in the community and serves as the home of numerous local groups including: the Cheverly Garden Club, the Cheverly Young Actors Guild, Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek, a Girl Scout troop, Safe Passages (a state-funded program to assist at-risk youth), an Alcoholics Anonymous program, the Cheverly Quilters, community yoga classes, and the founding home of the 40-year old Weekday Nursery and Mothers’ Day Out programs (which have served many area families). We take great pride in welcoming these groups to our facility.
We hope that you will join us and help provide the church with much needed funds to support the physical infrastructure, ensuring that the church can continue to be home for these worthwhile local organizations. You can help by attending and bidding on the many wonderful items, such as;
- Babysitting services
- Seasonal Pool Membership
- Pet Sitting Services
- Vacation rentals
- Will Package
- Gift Certificates
- Gift Baskets
