The question I get asked the most when people email me about Cheverly is, “What about the schools?” Parents want to know that if they move to the area, their little ones will have some good options available. I’m proud to say that there are a couple great options in our neighborhood: Cheverly Weekday Nursery and Cheverly Children’s House. Of course, there are plenty of others that are a short drive from our neighborhood such as Greenbelt Nursery School and Silver Spring Nursery School and I’m sure many more… (feel free to comment below if you know of some that I’m missing)
Because I Choose Cheverly I want to highlight the two that meet in our neighborhood. Cheverly Weekday Nursery has a long history with community. I wish I knew more about the background (someone out there needs to write something for me!) but what I can tell you is that the program has been around longer than I’ve been alive! Yes, the program started at the Methodist Church in 1970. A great option for those of you who are use to a traditional preschool, they have just renovated and the rooms are large and beautiful! Tonight is the Open House night from 6:30-7:30pm.
Cheverly Children’s House was started by a local mom, Melissa Kemendo. Meeting in the newly remodeled basement of her own home, Melissa instructs children in the Montessori style learning method. This is a great option for fans of the Montessori style. Starting 2 1/2 years ago, Melissa’s home is fully stocked with all new Montessori materials. If you are interested in learning more, you can email Melissa at: melissa@cheverlymontessori.com
What a joy to have our children go to school together in such a tight knit community. I know that other moms and dads have been so helpful to me when I’m in a pinch. (happens often with working moms)
Best,
Lisa
