Beautification Day at Spellman

How many of you are familiar with our local elementary school? It’s so amazing to see that our neighbors came out to help ‘beautify’ the school. With the help of Art Works Now, the group of volunteers made a beautiful sign for all of us to see. (just take a drive on 63rd) This year’s PTA group has worked on the teachers lounge and now they have beautified the school grounds. THIS is community. Doesn’t it make you want to take part?!  Mayor Mike came along with Cheverly resident and County Executive Rushern Baker. Three cheers for everyone who turned out to help. Here is a blurb from the Spellman PTA post on Facebook: (and pictures above from Joe Newman Photography)

Beautification day was a huge success! A million thanks from all of us at the Spellman PTA! You came out on your Saturday in the dreary RAIN to help spruce up our school inside and out. And what a job you did! You planted trees, cleared overgrowth throughout the garden, yanked weeds from everywhere, mulched, planted, watered, hauled, organized and beautified. The results are incredible!

Meanwhile, students showed off their creativity working with the terrific team from Art Works Now to create a lasting sign of Spellman pride. The tile art project is on display at the back fence near the playground and it looks awesome!

Thank you amazing Principal Smith, terrific teachers and staff who came on your day off to support the effort. A special thanks to County Executive Rushern Baker who planted a tree in the rain, painted a tile for the signage project and showed his support for Spellman. And a huge shout out to Nathan McElroy from Pepco (and Cheverly resident), and Chris and Tina Furnkranz who provided the landscaping and artistic expertise to make this project possible. Thanks to Joe Newman for taking professional photos, to be shared soon. And thanks again to all the awesome community groups who planted trees and donated their time:
