It’s a big weekend, friends. The Cheverly Pool is opening tomorrow (!!!!!), there is a cookout hosted by the American Legion on Monday (along with a ceremony at Legion Park) and Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek are having their monthly clean up. If you use the trail, please consider joining them on Saturday morning.
Join your friendly neighborhood environmental group, Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek (FLBC) for our monthly work party this Saturday, May 26 between 9 am and noon. We’ll meet at 9 am at Magruder Spring just below the bus stop on Cheverly Ave., a half block north of the Cheverly 7-11. We’ll work on native plants adjacent to the Spring and on trail maintenance. Tools, gloves, snacks, and water will be provided. School community service hours are available. We welcome volunteers of all ages.
Please join us for a short ceremony at Legion Park 10:00 to 10:30ish (see picture below of the event from a couple years ago) followed by an Open House at the Post 1-4.
Join the American Legion for a Memorial Day community cookout and open house for continued remembrance of those veterans that are no longer with us. The cookout will have hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, chips and non-alcoholic drinks available for free (donations are always greatly appreciated as the Legion’s efforts go toward helping veterans and their families). If you’d like some additional food items, feel free to bring it. There will be a table for an impromptu potluck and plenty of space on the grill. This is just an informal community cookout to make sure that everyone in Cheverly and the surrounding area has a few friends to spend time with and share this important day of remembrance and appreciation. It’s also a family friendly event with indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) games available to keep everyone entertained.
