This was the route I took to my niece’s graduation on Friday. It was pure hell. I would rather live anywhere than a city off of I95 in Virginia. Even if you offered me a free home in this area that made me drive into DC from I95 or 66 for that matter, I wouldn’t take it. Did you know that… Interstate 95 heading south through Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford has been ranked as the most congested traffic hotspot in the country, according to a report this week from analysis firm INRIX. The same stretch heading north also made the top 10. Top 10 in the entire USA. That fact alone tells me I don’t want to live there. I have to say that I’m grateful for the peace Cheverly brings my life. We are the first exit outside of DC on 50 and 295 and if you want to go to Annapolis, it only takes 20 min. So while traffic anywhere within DC is not terrific, I think Cheverly provides some calm from the traffic storm.
If traffic is good and we don’t live off of insane 95 or 66, then why aren’t people who are moving to these crazy towns all moving to Cheverly? I’m glad you asked. I’m assuming they love to commute into DC for an hour- 2 hours every day. Or maybe they like listening to radio programs or riding with 3 strangers. Hmm… makes sense to me. From what I can tell, some people hesitate to buy in Cheverly because of the amount of land they will have and/or space for their home. I get that. Cheverly homes can run on the small size but we have a number of safe parks that make you feel like you are in the middle of the US.
I also think a number of people have issues with Prince Georges County Schools. (and I don’t blame them) My friend and I had this conversation yesterday. It went from the bad traffic in VA to the PGCS system. I mentioned that most of my friends who live in DC and in VA have issues with their own schools so they send their kids to private. Having said that, there are a number of wonderful parents/families who send their children to the public schools in the area and are very impressed. Hold onto your seat, my next post is going to be about what families in Cheverly do for schools. (including my own story)
I know it sounds like I’m trying to sell Cheverly again in this post. I have good news for you, while I’m still going to sell Cheverly hard to all my friends, family and readers, I’m not going to do it as much BECAUSE Cheverly is HOT right now. A house that just went on the market had multiple bids and some escalation clauses that went up to 70K above asking price. I’m here to tell you that you have to make your house UNIQUE and beautiful. Spend 20K doing some UNIQUE things to your home (not a cookie cutter kitchen- not a cookie cutter anything–something beautiful. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, hire an interior decorator to give you some ideas) and you will earn double that or more when you sell your home.
Okay, I had to get that all off my chest. There will be more ramblings to come! And Lord, please give us clear sunny hot weather. I’m dying here!!
