I have some exciting news to share. Yesterday I had a long conversation with a personal friend and DC realtor who has been working in real estate for 15 plus years. He said (after some huge home sales) that Cheverly “is finally getting the respect it deserves.” “We are finally seeing DC buyers HAPPY to move to Cheverly!” What he means to say is that the perception of Cheverly is changing. We have a Metro, we are close to the DC Costco, Chick fil-a and Starbucks, we have a COMMUNITY and you can have a yard. (all for under a half million)
Two open houses over the past two weekends have had multiple offers and have had escalation clauses that we haven’t seen in a while. It’s great news for people who are thinking about selling their Cheverly home. It’s bad news for buyers.
So there you have it. Now I want you to take a close look at the fireplace in the photo below:
The owners of this home replaced the old tile for some new black tile (its hard to see from this photo) and then completely redid the mantle, the sides of the fireplace and the tile surrounding it. That work alone probably got them a 10K payback when they sold. Look at another home under contract. They painted the front door blue and it made a huge difference for curb appeal:
Moral of the story: If you are interested in selling, now is the time–you just need to take care of your home and give it some pizzazz. Also…get a realtor who will spruce it up a bit!
