Every month our town sends out a newsletter full of information about what is happening in town. One of the objections I get from people about the idea of moving to Cheverly is that it is a “quiet town” “in the suburbs”. Let me put those thoughts to rest. First of all, one of the things I love most about our neighborhood is the fact that I don’t have to go outside the boundaries of Cheverly for entertainment. There is so much to do here, right in town! (no fighting traffic to get to these events–which is worth it for me) Second, we are on the border of DC (aka, we are NOT in the burbs). If you are interested in moving to our town, here are some of the really cool events that are happening in the next month:
Holiday Party Saturday December 1st– Santa Claus comes to the Cheverly gym (ha) at 11:00.
Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting– Friday Dec 7th the town will host its annual Tree Lighting/Holiday Celebration. It begins at 6:30 at the Town Hall gym where you can listen to local school/church groups sing songs while drinking cider, eating gingerbread cookies, clementine’s and oranges. After the celebration at 7:45, everyone walks together to Legion Park (near the Cheverly United Methodist Church) to sing carols, light the town Christmas tree and to enjoy a yule log. It’s amazing and you don’t want to miss it.
Nov 17th and Dec 8th– These are the dates of the Holiday Markets. If you’d like to order a tree to be picked up on Dec 1st in Cheverly, you can do so online or at the market.
Saturday Dec 1st – Cheverly Garden Club will have a car trip to Hillwood for the decorations. Faberge is the design for the Holidays. This will be spectacular and a fee $50 will cover admittance, and lunch. December 15 the Snowden Mansion will be decorated and open for tours with three different themes. Remember to rake, bag and wait for the town to pick up the leaves and return them in the Spring. We are so lucky to have the town help with Black Gold for our gardens. Take advantage of the local buildings and gardens that have so much to offer.
Veterans Day – Sunday, November 11, 10 a.m. The Sons of the American Legion will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at Legion Park in the morning. The Dugout will be open at 12:30 p.m. for an ‘unstructured’ open house and to watch the 1 p.m. Redskins game.
Second Friday St. Ambrose Men’s Club Game Night at the Legion – Friday, November 9, 8 p.m. Join the Cheverly American Legion and St. Ambrose Men’s Club for pool, darts, and cards. This is a great evening to learn a little bit more about both of these great Cheverly groups.
So yes, lots going on. And don’t forget about the Cheverly Home Tour on Dec 15th! http://www.cheverlyhometour.com/
