Great news Cheverly!! The Historic Preservation Commission recommended that Cheverly’s nomination to theNational Register of Historic Places move forward to the next step in the process. Thank you Commissioners!
If you are interested in learning more about the history of Cheverly, home design, years built etc then come out tomorrow night to the Cheverly Town Hall at 6pm for a meeting. This is really wonderful news for our community- it is an honorific designation with no restrictions on the included properties. Essentially this adds an additional layer to Cheverly’s character and vernacular and is one aspect of our diverse history and experiences as a community.
Taken from their website, what is the Historic Preservation of Historic Places? The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources.
