My name is Lisa and I Choose Cheverly. I first moved to Washington, D.C. from living in Europe when I was 28 years old. I chose to live on Capitol Hill. Living off very little rent, I shared a row home with 7 friends on 3rd St. NE. We hosted West Wing dinner parties (because it was filmed on our street) and even had an Oprah Winfrey crew show up to tape a “What not to Wear” episode. I had a lot of fun! Shortly after I moved around the corner to a home on Constitution Ave NE. It was somewhat of an upgrade as we had a balcony and only 4 roommates, although I had to share a room. (DC living) Finally I moved to my condo on 2nd St. NE where I became a real home owner and had adult responsibilities. I could finally afford a car.
It was in 2005 that I was itching to have a backyard and a community with a Midwestern type feel. I heard rumors of a town called Cheverly, Maryland. Apparently it was only a couple miles from Capitol Hill , the houses were affordable and they were old beautiful colonials. Thus began my love affair with my neighborhood.
I now live on the iconic Cheverly Ave. with my husband, nanny, and two boys. As the years have gone by, I’ve fallen more in love with my neighbors, my 30 minute door to door commute to the Capitol, the Cheverly pool, parks, police, town hall, community markets and the list could go on and on.
If you are looking for a mid-west type community where you still know your neighbors and feel safe one mile from DC, I’d recommend that you CHOOSE CHEVERLY.
